How Long Here ("we", "our", or "us") is an iOS application that automatically tracks how long you spend at locations you visit. We are committed to protecting your privacy.
This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our mobile application.
Information We Collect
Location Data
To function, How Long Here uses your device's location services. This data is:
- Stored entirely on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework
- Never transmitted to our servers or any third party
- Never shared, sold, or used for advertising
- Used solely to detect arrivals and departures at locations you visit
No Account Required
How Long Here does not require you to create an account. We do not collect your name, email address, or any other personal information.
No Analytics or Tracking
We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. The app does not phone home or make any network requests.
How Your Data Is Used
Your location data is used exclusively to:
- Detect when you arrive at and depart from locations
- Display a live timer showing how long you've been at your current location
- Build a visit history organized by day
- Show location details including address and map view
- Power the home screen widget with your current visit information
All data processing happens entirely on your device. No data is sent to external servers.
Data Storage & Security
We take your privacy seriously:
- All visit data is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData
- Data is shared only between the app and its widget via a secure App Group container
- No data is stored on external servers or in the cloud
- Reverse geocoding (converting coordinates to addresses) uses Apple's built-in services
Location Permissions
How Long Here requests "Always Allow" location access to detect visits in the background. This is required for the app to:
- Automatically detect when you arrive at a new location
- Detect when you leave a location, even when the app isn't open
- Keep the home screen widget updated with your current visit
You can change your location permissions at any time in your iPhone's Settings app. Revoking location access will stop automatic visit detection.
Your Rights
You have complete control over your data:
- Rename any visit location with a custom name
- Revoke location permissions at any time in Settings
- Uninstall the app, which permanently deletes all locally stored visit data
Children's Privacy
How Long Here does not knowingly collect any data from children under 13. Since the app does not collect any personal information or transmit data externally, there is no risk of children's data being exposed.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
